Ice is a Russian film all about second chances and rising from a crippling injury to once again fight back in the championship for figure skating.
I was browsing through a online movie portal and I came across this film with the name Ice. I read the small synopsis like thing but what attracted me was the picture of the film poster. A figure skater half inside the water struggle to rise again. It inspired me to watch this film and I am glad I did.
The Plot
This movie revolves around an orphan who lost her mother and stays with her poor aunt who makes her sell bananas. The girl Nadya runs to a figure skating school as its her passion and impresses the teacher to enroll her. She is an exceptional skater gradually rising through ranks and auditions to become the partner of a well known figure skater Leonov, scoring it on first attempt. Leonov and Nadya fall in love as they figure skate and all is going well. Leonov plans to propose her on the day of the championships.
In the championships during a complex number Leonov lets go of Nadya's hands accidentally and she falls paralising herself waist down. She gets another emotional attack when Leonov convinced by his manager leaves her. Nadya depressed at fate and life resigns herself to her aunts house and is on a wheelchair.
Her old teacher with the help of a troubled hockey player tries to help Nadya recover. The hockey player Sasha used unorthodox methods but finally manages to bring back life to her legs. In the meanwhile discovering his own passion for figure skating, Nadya and Sasha pair up for the championships where Nadya had fell and become paralysed.
Why Should You Watch This Film?
This is a film of rebirth. It signifies the rise of a girl literally from the deep abyss to once again become a champion. It shows the power of human strength and love. It shows how believing in oneself and self-love is important.
This is my first Russian film that I have ever seen and I enjoyed a lot. This is such an inspiring film and you should definitely watch it. You can buy it on Amazon,
