My Journey

From talking about anger and goosebumps with my school psychologist to aspiring to become a researcher wanting to broaden the horizons of current psychological knowledge, my journey has been amazing.

During high school biology I kept asking my teacher regarding brain behavior and she told me to talk to a psychologist about that. I was confused as I thought psychology only dealt with mental disorders but a meeting with my school psychologist dispelled all of these myths and exposed me to the wonderful world of psychology.

I took psychology in Class 11, and it truly felt like I found the piece I was missing in life. Psychology was such a dynamic and exciting field; it was relatable and made sense. I enjoyed it so much that I knew I would pursue it for further studies. This propelled me to do B.A and M.A in this field as well as PG diploma to know more about helping families during the lifespan deal with issues and transitions in a positive way.

Covid-19 pandemic despite providing pain and stress actually helped in facilitating cross-state and country research. Lack of research opportunities for undergrad and master's students in India was bridged as I was able to do virtual internships and volunteering work in various areas of psychology to explore what I really liked. I was able to work at institutions like TISS Mumbai, IIT Roorkee, Middlesex University Dubai, Stanford University USA. Volunteer at organisations like SevaMandir Udaipur, Team Everest Chennai as well as United Nations Online Volunteering through Rumie Initiative Canada and Energy Globe Awards Austria. Be part of mentorship programs by APA and Psychin' Out and learn new research and statistics skills which would've been hard to explore without such virtual opportunities. These experiences helped provide me adequate skills and confidence to do my supervised research work for my M.A dissertation and PG diploma research project. Virtual research communities and resources are wonderful ways to explore and learn new things at own pace and make meaningful connections with other students who are in the same boat as well as helpful mentors who provide valuable guidance.

Since childhood I have been fascinated with finding things. Treasure hunting game and hide-n-seek were my favorite games growing up. I love to know more about things, so I felt at ease and excited doing research be it for school projects, assignments or college thesis project. I felt a sense of renewed energy and enthusiasm which made me realize as I began studying psychology that I wanted to become a researcher and contribute towards discovering newer things in this field.  I am an independent researcher currently seeking research opportunities as well as exploring avenues for doctoral research.

I am interested in preventive research towards better health outcomes especially improve sleep. Along with this I am interested in positive psychological concepts of hope, optimism, happiness as well as nature engagement to improve wellbeing and better cope with stress and crisis. Enormity in usage of internet and digital media also propelled me to explore ways in which we could provide a balance to such a phenomenon and live a more physically and mentally healthy life.

When I am not thinking about psychology, I love to write especially poetry and do crochet. (currently making crochet jewelry, check my Pinterest page) I am a bookworm and a movie buff especially enjoying thrillers, murder-mystery and romantic comedy wholesome films. I love old movies and melodies, do check my film review blog for more. I am an advocate for gender equality, diversity and climate change.  I enjoy watching cricket, tennis, motorsports and I love sport championships like FIFA and Olympics. I am a proud Swiftie!

I am open to research collaborations, chatting and exploring psychology. Please feel free to reach out!
